Is the iPad too small for the adapter?

It may seem that way but it extends to do big things!

On either side of adapter (parallel to each other), there are two buttons. Push those in and pull on the tab closest to the buttons, to expand the adapter. The iPad will fit inside the adapter going both portrait and landscape. You should attach it based on your photo layout. Some examples are below.
